'A CHAT WITH A BASSETT HOUND'

A week on from a superb weekend conference hosted by 'Churches Together' in Scarborough, their first Springfest annual event, I have come home blessed with much food for thought. Dr. R.T. Kendall was speaking on Total Forgiveness and the Anointing. I was particularly touched with the reminder on the need to live in the "Realm of the ungrieved Spirit." I was minded as a result of this to pick up a book bought a while back sitting in my veritable library that needs to 'get into' me, "GLORY ON YOUR HOUSE", by Jack Hayford. He is listed in my links, by the way.

He has much to say that strengthens the message of how to live in the realm of the ungrieved Spirit. Last year I spent 3 mornings reading a book about love by E.W.Kenyon and came away glowing, gripped and impassioned, delightfully convicted this is what God wants for us more than anything. I had only heard Kenyon's name before. (There is no particular order as to whose who listed) Amazed that Kenyon was a revivalist on Jonathan Edward's earlier stomping ground and that he began a Bible School, his message then has great value for today and is most relevant. Being loving ..at all times, hmmn.

Quite a challenge, easy when we feel God close, easy when we feel loved, but what when the heat is on as the proverbial song goes? Hmmn. Hold that thought as I continue. R.T. Kendall spoke twice on Total Forgiveness: "We do it because it's right", "It's a life sentence" and,"this is the purest form of Christianity". I responded twice by coming forward to stand and repeat a prayer with a group of us (2 different meetings).

1st meeting - I had folk to forgive. 2nd meeting - as R.T. spoke, E.W. Kenyon's parallel and complimentary message came vividly back to mind. I responded to both 'benedictions'. because I want the Grace to be loving no matter what. My flesh hates it...but my spirit loves it! Our spirit is always strengthened by what our flesh hates if God calls us to pay a price - it's small compared to Jesus' price for us, and the later reward is great. God liberates as when we are prepared to let His Dove out of the cage of our own hearts to enable us to simply and excellently love folk around us. When we come to the place when our delight is to Bless and see God touch people who knows, He may just fill the House with Glory.

Oh by the way, I spoke to a Bassett Hound that weekend, he much appreciated it, very kissy to my hands!

God wants us to have spiritual ears like such, with hearts that hear as to 'hearken'.

GREEN PASTURES & QUIET WATERS

INTRODUCTORY NOTES

My wish is that my site would be a place of comfort, encouragement, repose, edification and refocus our gaze on the Father, Son Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit the 3 in One in worshipful adoration; Hebrews 10:24 "Let us consider how we may spur one another on to Love and good deeds."

It is my view that we are all learning and God isn't finished with any of us yet, and we are all on a journey. Psalm 84 v 5 "Blessed are those whose strength is in you, who have set their hearts on pilgrimage". So let's enjoy the journey!

One of the main Calls of the Church to one another is to speak the truth in love, build up one another in our most Holy of Faiths, and restore one another gently. This is when the Anointing can truly begin to flow unhindered. See Psalm 133. This is when "the Dove can settle and remain" (quote Dr. R.T. Kendall).

Read on to see a little about God's wonderful heart toward us.

THE PRODIGAL FATHER

Remember the parable of the Prodigal son? I recently heard Mark Stibbe, of St. Andrews Chorleywood, say that this story could be more about the Father... the Prodigal Father always watching out for his son. That is our Loving Heavenly Father, who in is His great wisdom always watches out for us.

2 Samuel 22:36
"You have also given me the shield of Your salvation; and Your condescension and gentleness have made me great."

Philippians 4:5
"Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near".

On this journey of faith, I aim towards this level of Love in the Lord. It's this kind of Love that demonstrates the Kingdom of Heaven effectively and the fact that He has Covenanted His Love to us makes it possible. This is only possible when we experience an unfolding revelation of His Love to us that we can then impart it.

My hope is this site would be a place where we may consider Him more together and be inspired to think on the things of the Kingdom. Also, ways in which we can be bridges to one another via the Word and Holy Spirit to build a greater Tabernacle of Praise in our inner life on the one hand and a place of repose on the other. The good news is that this doesn't stop with us though! The Holy Spirit is likened to many things, one of which is a river Who flows through us...we take Him wherever we go.

THOU HAS MADE ME TO LAUGH by George Canty

A BBC radio discussion has remained in my mind. A member remarked how serious and humourless Jesus was. Lord Hailsham demolished him, quoting instance after instance of Christ's wit. It reminded me of a lecture I heard by the late Dr. Norwood of the Methodist Women's College, similarly showing how humorous Jesus could be. . If brevity is the soul of wit then Christ's words are like the Bible says apples of gold in caskets of silver. He would not always answer questions because it was a waste of words.

Take the Sermon on the Mount and one of His pithy remarks "Blessed are they that mourn for they shall be comforted". To listeners then, it put things in a nutshell so neatly it would make them smile. Certainly it didn't bore them. "They heard Him gladly." Much in those three chapters is so out of the normal. "If your eye offends you pluck it out". Spoken with His graciousness and that voice, the greatest sound ever heard on earth, they would see His smiling eyes and realise it was truth expressed with the brevity of humour. Jesus startled hearers with laughable absurdities conveying truth unforgettably. People loved to hear Him because His speech was seasoned with the salt of brevity, wit and charm.

Dr. Norwood told us about the proverbial camel going through the eye of a needle. He amused us with explanations he had heard. The camel being camelhair rope, for example. He was especially entertaining about the camel passing through a narrow gate at the side of the main city gate. In fact, there never was such a gate at all. By such absurdities Jesus heightened people's understanding. He talked about a man with a bit of dust in his eye being treated by a man with a 'beam' in his eye – a whole plank. If we don't laugh at a man walking around unconscious of a plank in his eye, we don't know how to read Christ's words.

There is the idea that laughter is not for serious believers and God isn't funny. Well, I have prayed for many sick people, and I do a lot of smiling because of His wonderful and often hilarious blessing. God made this world, and the fun, laughter, merriment didn't generate themselves. God put it all there, the play into young creatures, like the mother and two fox cubs rollicking on my lawn, and those squirrels such a nuisance but such comedians in their antics. A duck and drake began visiting my garden this year, my first close encounter with ducks and I laughed and laughed over them. Even the goldfish flashing in my garden pool don't make us miserable but always put a smile on everybody's face.

I find the world is intensely interesting. God gave us risible faculties and fills the world with situations to match, My work is with theological issues and again and again the humorous strikes me. Christmas is the time to be glad. It was God's humour to let Roman emperors kid themselves while a babe in a crib fresh born in a minor part of their empire had a destiny the Caesars and Augustus's could never imagine. The Emperor Nero's name is now used for dogs. God is a fountain of joy. We have everything to laugh about, Perhaps it should become more obvious?
